Alderney ferry proposal well received
Monday, February 16, 2015
We held a very well-attended public meeting in Alderney on 11 Feb to set out our proposals for a fast ferry service for Alderney. We had responded to a States invitation to tender for a low-cost ferry between Guernsey, Jersey, France and Alderney and had submitted back in July 2015 a very detailed proposal.
The meeting aimed to increase public awareness of the proposal, in the absence of any positive reaction from the States of Alderney.
Our proposal was for a 30m, 30 knot catamaran carrying 140+ passengers and running between the islands and connecting with Condor services from the UK. The States specified a £30 return fare between Guernsey and Alderney which we believe would attract island-hopping toruists from Guernsey with a fare virtually the same as the fare to Sark. Inevitably, at that level, some subsidy would be required but we estimate that to be £85,000 averaged out over the 5 year contract. In return, the island would expect over 10,000 additional visitors a year bringing in £2.9m in tourist spend.
We believe our project has the ability to turn around the island's ailing economy and we believe we are the people with the expertise and experience to make it happen.
