Questions people ask us. If you've got a question not answered here please e-mail the Skipper.
On all our tariffs, children are those aged under 12 years.
HOW SAFE IS BUMBLEBEE?
Risk assessments have been carried out on everything we do. Comprehensive safety equipment is carried on the vessel, including liferafts, lifejackets and firefighting equipment, in accordance with Marine and Coastguard Authority regulations. Children's lifejackets as well as floating baby cots are carried. A full safety briefing is conducted at the commencement of each trip. The crew are fully trained in first aid and safety procedures. The vessel has state-of-the-art navigation equipment and radar and is in constant radio contact with the Coastguard. We are fully insured for passenger liability.
WHAT IF THE WEATHER’S TOO ROUGH TO TRAVEL?
In the event that weather conditions on the route are likely to make the passage dangerous or unreasonably uncomfortable we may have to cancel the trip. We will normally notify you on your mobile. In such cases, you will be offered a full refund or an alternative booking.
CAN I CHANGE MY BOOKING?
Of course. Provided you let us know by e-mailing us at least 48 hours before, we'll try to you fix up with a suitable alternative trip without any extra charge. After that we charge a change fee as we are unlikely to be able to re-sell your seats. For full details see our Conditions of Carriage.
WHAT IF I WANT TO CANCEL?
No problem. You can cancel your booking by e-mailing us any time up to 48 hours before your scheduled departure. After this we're afraid we'll have to charge you because there's little chance of us re-selling the space. For full details see our Conditions of Carriage.
WHAT IF I MISS THE BOAT?
Sorry, but, no refund will be made to passengers who do not present themselves at the departure point in time to board the trip they have booked.
There's always a possibility that a trip you've booked will have to be cancelled for weather or technical reasons. In these cases Bumblebee's liability is limited to refunding you the cost of your ticket. We cannot be held responsible for other consequences of such delay or cancellation and recommend you have adequate travel insurance.
IS THERE A MINIMUM NUMBER OF PASSENGERS?
There is no minimum number of passengers on our Alderney trips but we reserve the right to set a minimum of 6 passengers on certain cruises at our discretion.

IS THERE A TOILET ON BOARD?
Yes, there's a convenient toilet for your use at any time
We will not carry unaccompanied minors aged 10 and under. 11 to 15 year olds may travel unaccompanied provided their parent or guardian nominates the person meeting the child at the end of the journey. That person will be required to produce a valid identity document before the child is released to them.
Young people aged 16 and over may travel unaccompanied without restriction.

CAN I BRING A PET?
We are happy to accommodate pets on our Alderney ferry service by arrangement. Please e-mail us to check space.
We charge £5 each way per dog, payable on board.
It is not practical to have animals abourd our Puffin, Seal and Coastal cruises as passengers tend to walk around the deck to get the best view and animals inhibit this movement.
We are, however, happy to accommodate guide dogs without charge.
Rabies and quarantine regulations prevent us taking animals to France.
We ask that dogs travel on the outside deck, not in the cabin.
We suggest you bring a towel in case your pet gets wet on deck.
DO YOU HAVE WHEELCHAIR FACILITIES?
Bumblebee has been designed to be wheelchair-accessible.
With a bit of forward planning and boarding at the right state of tide it is possible to board 1 or 2 wheelchairs. This normally works for charters where we can change the time to suit you but not for scheduled services. Wheelchairs must not be more than 750mm wide.
DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL CLOTHING?
Unlike open boats, Bumblebee will keep you dry in most conditions. If it's cold or wet there's room for everyone inside the dry, warm wheelhouse. So there's no need for cumbersome waterproof clothing, neither is there any need to wear lifejackets for the whole journey unless you wish to. It's often cooler on the sea than you think, even on a warm summer's day, so it's advisable to bring along something warm and wind-proof just in case. Ladies - For your own safety please do not wear high heels, which may also damage the deck.
DO YOU CHARGE FOR USING A CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD?
IS SMOKING ALLOWED?
We believe that excessive drinking of alcohol and the sea don't mix.
On our passenger services and cruises we do not allow the consumption of alcohol, except for when we offer you a glass of wine on one of our cruises.
On private charters it's a bit more relaxed, but we don't encourage booze cruises.
The Captain may refuse boarding to anyone he believes may put himself, other passsengers or the vessel at risk due to excessive consumption of alcohol.
DO YOU HAVE LUGGAGE RESTRICTIONS?
We don't have restrictions as such but we reserve the right to refuse carriage of items that may impede safety. For your safety the crew need to be able to move freely around the vessel and we need to maintain access to certain areas. We will carry a reasonable amount of personal baggage but ask that no one item weighs more than 25kg
If in doubt, please give us a call.
CAN I BRING A BICYCLE?
We have limited space but can accommodate a couple of bikes on each trip. We charge £5 each way per bike, payable on board.
Please bear in mind that your bike may get splashed with seawater during the crossing, so it may need a good rinse afterwards.
WHERE CAN I GET EUROS FOR MY FRENCH TRIP?
BATIF run bureaux de change at the Tourist Information Office and at the Post Office on Smith Street. All the major high street banks will also change money for you.
WHY DON'T YOU GO TO SARK?
Sark has a very strict licensing regime aimed at protecting their own shipping company, so we're not allowed to take passengers there from Guernsey, either on schedules or on charters.
We are, however, permitted to operate between Alderney and Sark and between Jersey and Sark. We're happy to offer charters on these routes.
